Action…it never ceases to amaze me (76 days to go)

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Yes, I know, I talk about action a lot. And I guess that’s because I am constantly astounded as to how this affects my life and those around me. Taking action is one of those things that we all know that we need to do, if we want to get something or get somewhere in life.

Taking action is also one of those things that can be challenging at times. I have to agree, because I often find myself knowing what to do, but not taking action and doing it! There’s always a plethora of excuses we manage to conjure up, and we may even do such a good job of convincing ourselves that it becomes a habit NOT TO TAKE action. This creates a problem, as if you’re not taking action towards your goals, then I hate to break it to you….but you’re not going to achieve them…

So what can we do to overcome this challenge of not taking action? It’s simple. Grow up and take responsibility for your goals. Once you take responsibility for what you want to achieve in life, then you know that the only thing standing between yourself and your goals… is you!

One of the challenges in life is to change the habits that we have become used to ie, that we can’t have everything we want in life, that we are here to work 9-5, then retire and then die (how exciting!) etc etc. These have been drilled into society on so many levels, it can be difficult to undo them, however it can be done.

Just be conscious of your thoughts, as much as possible. If your thoughts turn into actions, which then generate your results, it makes sense to monitor your thoughts to make sure that you’re having empowering thoughts.

Once you decide to take action and follow through everything changes. Taking action is the key to success to everything in life. So if you’re been putting off something that you know is a critical factor in your success, then consider this your personal reminder - DO IT NOW!

How to get Great Results (195 days to go)

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Being in sales for a number of years, I have seen many different strategies designed to get the best “outcome” for the salesperson. They are usually designed to meet a sales target, keep management happy, and make you feel good about yourself.

There are always many other factors that can influence your success in reaching your target. To give you an example, if you have a monthly sales target of say, 10 complete systems of whatever it is you sell, then the month usually goes like this:

The month starts off great - you are motivated, you’re getting leads from all over the place, surely this month you are going to smash the target! Week two is more of the same, lots more prospects in the pipeline, it’s going to be a good month. Week 3 and - hold on - we’re almost half way through

the month
and I haven’t even closed any sales yet! Mad rush to get some sales under my belt. Before you know it, it’s week 4 and you are wondering where the time has gone! You are pulling out all the stops to close those sales, extra discounts, help from your colleagues, etc etc. This last week has been pretty hectic - but you manage to scrape by.

If you analyze what just happened, when was your time most productively spent? I mean, when did you take more action than any other week? In what week did you achieve the best results? - The 4th week! The very last week of

the month (for the purposes of this experiment, we are talking about February in a non-leap year, for all those folks who feel it is their duty to correct me and say there are more than 4 weeks in a month:-))

So what was different about Week 4? The pressure was on - that’s what was different! If you didn’t make something happen then the proverbial sh** is going to hit the proverbial fan!! After a few months on the job, acting like I described in the example above, I had a chat to my manager. He has a lot of experience in all types of sales roles, including commission only, management etc.

He posed the question -”What would your results be like if you acted like every week was the last week of

the month?

I thought about it for a while, and then said I would give it a go. I haven’t looked back since. It basically boils down to me taking the actions needed to exceed my results, every week. Actually every day! The crazy thing is, I still manage to do all the other things non-sales related, admin tasks every week too. I used to use these as my excuse for why

the month got away on me!

I guess the lesson that I have taken out of this, is that in order to achieve drastic results, you need to take drastic action. I have a goal of exceeding my sales target every month, and for the last few months, that’s exactly what I have done.

The great thing is, I can now apply what I have learned to my newest goal - to earn $1 Million dollars in 365 days. So, on that note, I’m off to take some more action!

Opportunity or Doom & Gloom? (225 days to go)

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Lately there’s a lot going on both locally and internationally. What happens when there’s a big event such as this massive shift in economic climate? People get made redundant, there’s down-sizing, expenditure cuts & job security is a thing of the past.

So what do you do? What if you have all these goals that you have set for yourself in 2009 and then along comes this big “recession” and throws all your plans out the window. Do you go back to living your ordinary life? I don’t think so.

Remember there’s ALWAYS two sides to a coin, no matter how many times you cut it in half and how thin it becomes. So what is the flipside in today’s climate? OPPORTUNITY!There has never been a better time to seek opportunity. And you know what they say”Seek & Ye shall find”. Now’s your chance to test that theory.

“Live in the moment, not in the past or the future. Live for the right now”

The Kiwi Millionaire

We all come up against obstacles in the journey to achieving our goals. One thing we have to remember is that it is usually the journey that is the most transformational part of the entire experience. When you reach your goal, you realise that it wasn’t even about the end result, because you received so much more from the journey itself.

I believe that in order to get the best results, we have to focus on what we want to achieve, and then see where we are in relation to that goal. That means, what is happening around us RIGHT NOW. Not this month, I am talking about these couple of minutes that you are spending reading this.

Stop for a moment and close your eyes. What’s going on right now that could be your next opportunity? Take a minute to appreciate the silence and very soon you will see that there is actually no such thing as silence, there is always something happening. All you need to to is decide what you are going to do with it.

How to find opportunity in your everyday life:

  • Always keep an open mind - don’t dismiss anything
  • Always ask yourself whether something can be improved upon
  • Don’t focus on finding the opportunity, & opportunity will come to you

Whether you are looking for a new business, new property, new hobby or anything else that you would like to add value to your life, then now is the time to do it. Your future is in your hands, all you need to do is take action. So decide on an action to take, and take it, right now…

How to Grow… (268 days to go)

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

It’s hardly surprising what happens when you type “how to grow” into google…

DopeMy perspective of this question, differs somewhat from google’s fast results. Google keeps telling me how to grow marijuana. So the question is, are the majority of people more worried about next season’s crop than about bettering themselves? Or could our society be promoting narcotics to the masses in order to benefit a select few?

What I am referring to when I say “How to Grow”, is how do we grow? As people living in on this earth, with all the experiences that we have on offer here?

In a weird way, this is a great example of perspective and habitual thinking. If the majority of people who heard “how to grow”, first thought of the growth that a person experiences through the trials and tribulations of life, rather than growing dope, would that change the google results? I think it would.

So if you would like to find out how to grow (the right way) in your life, then I suggest reading on. Below are some simple tips on actions that you can take now, that will help you experience the growth you need in order to achieve what you want in life.

How to achieve Growth in your Life:

  1. Read the right books. Like anything you put into your mind, you want to make sure that it’s quality. None of us want to spend time filling our heads with garbage that isn’t going to help us. Although often, we don’t even know we are doing this. Reading is an amazing thing, because it allows us to ask questions. If you are reading the right books, then you will ask yourself the right questions which will help you develop and grow as a person, through self-awareness. The beauty is that the more books you read, the further you progress along your journey. When reading the right type of books, you are influenced by the contents. If you read the right types of books, with positive, empowering stories, then your life will be influenced in positive, empowering ways. Be careful as the reverse is also true.
  2. Talk to the right people. This is similar to reading the right types of books, because you are influenced by those people around you. Just think of some people in your life right now. Have you recently done something, or not done something, because someone in your circle of friends or family has thoughts or behaviours about that particular topic? The truth is, you become more and more like the people that you spend your time with. So if you would like to be successful, find successful people and learn from them. The easiest way to do this is to become friends with them and watch how they lead their lives. You don’t need to copy them with everything they do, and if you become friends with a whole bunch of successful people, then very soon you will become successful too. Just like reading the wrong books, if you hang out with people who are dis-empowering then this will rub off on you, whether you like it or not. So choose your friends wisely and surround yourself with empowering, positive, successful people.
  3. Take as much action as possible. The first two steps talk about ways to grow. That’s a bit of a lie. They are ways to find out how to grow. The real growth lies in taking action. Actually doing something that will cause a result. Sometimes the result might now be what you were expecting. Have you noticed that when that happens, you think that you will never be able to get past that point. Then a few months down the track you are looking back and see that the “negative” experience you had, actually gave you something you wouldn’t have otherwise had? So at every opportunity, take the action. If you have a gut feeling, then just do it. The majority of the time, if it doesn’t work out, then the worst that can happen is that you might be slightly embarrassed. The funny thing is, that it’s often in those times of adversity, when things don’t go our way, that we grow the most…

So remember to invest in yourself. Start reading more books, if you aren’t doing so already. And keep an eye on what you are reading - is it empowering? Will it help you achieve your goals?

Take action - meet those people, learn from those who are successful and soon you will be joining them at the top.

One week to go!! (300 days to go)

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Well…not really, however it sure feels like it’s down to the wire! For me, it’s like we’re in the last week of this epic journey. I feel like I’ve been working on this for years, however, realistically it’s only been 50 odd days!

Looking back, I’ve already accomplished so much! It’s really awesome to see the changes that I have made in my life, and the challenges I’ve overcome. It’s certainly a time to be grateful for everything that has happened so far.

“I’m extremely grateful for what I already have in my life, and I’m saying bring it on, I’m ready for some more!”

My journey over the last 50 days:

  • Begun writing my book
  • Started a new company (more…)
